The Coalition for a Better Business Environment Launches
PRESS RELEASE
Businesses from Across the Economy Are Coming Together in Support of the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI)
Washington, DC—Today, a cross section of leading businesses from energy to automotive are coming together to launch the Coalition for a Better Business Environment to provide business input and support for the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI). Together, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, bp, Ford, Exelon, National Grid and Shell Oil Company are urging east coast states to put a price on carbon across the transportation sector – the largest source of emissions in the region – by enacting TCI.
TCI is a collaboration of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia, that seeks to improve transportation, develop the clean energy economy and reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. Well-designed carbon pricing programs are the most efficient and cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and a regional program like TCI would be a major step towards a broader, economy-wide program.
The coalition will work to encourage all the states currently considering TCI to take the necessary executive, legislative and regulatory steps to participate in the initiative. The alliance is kicking off its efforts to advocate for innovative climate policy during Climate Week 2020 with the launch of its website: betterbusinessenvironment.org.
